"These songs were mostly written and recorded between the hours of 4-7 AM under the blanket of early morning darkness. The exceptions to this would be the instrumentals that were recorded in the late evening, pushing towards midnight. These hours create a softness that rings in my head, driving me to contemplation and questions, more questions than answers. The writing of each song would culminate in making a "demo" version that would be recorded before the rest of my household and the world woke up. The recording quality and methods used vary from song to song, and first takes are used when appropriate. Rather than hide the seams, I've let them burst out entirely.

The true meaning of these songs has changed in my mind since I've written and recorded them, it is my hope that the listener can find their own meaning apart from my intention. These songs were written as demos with thoughts of re-recording, but after listening to them repeatedly I thought they were a cohesive collection of a year of recording. I hope you enjoy them." -JM

4 peaceful jazz vignettes. Belt of Venus is aquamarine, with a slow, tidal energy as dignified as the sea. The aptly named plantwood is budding, emergent as flowers on dewy moss in the forest. Stained Glass Sauna has a smoky, mountain resonance, while the Sunken Cabin emerges slowly from dust-mote stillness to tortured but deliberating peaks. The whole thing is bursting with character.
